T-Fal Elegance Stainless-Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set Review

I hesitated before I purchased this set because some of the reviews were not favorable. Some of the reviews were a total 5, so I wondered how there could be such a huge gap between the purchaser's reviews. A little homework answered the question.

This is a beautiful set, and if handled ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTIONS, should stay in beautiful shape. One of the reviewers stated that her cookware turned blue after being put into the dishwasher. The directions distinctly state that this is a normal condition for stainless steel and can be remedied by wiping lemon juice or vinegar over the pot/pan. It works; just as stated.

Another reviewer stated that her pan warped. This happens when the heat is too high. Instructions fully state that one should not use this cookware on HIGH. It does not take much heat to allow the food to cook. There is an aluminum disk inserted in the bottom to conduct the heat. Aluminum DOES warp and melt under extremely high conditions.

One reviewer stated that the steel could be bent with her fingers. Perhaps she had a defective piece, as there is NO WAY I could do such a thing. I hand quilt everyday and am a professional seamstress. I have a lot of strength in my fingers; but still, it is an impossibility to bend this steel. Granted, the cookware is not a professional HEAVY weight, but it is a cookware that is bit weighty, but easy to handle, and light enough to produce quick heat.

Last night I fried salmon patties, and the pan cleaned up nicely. I used a little BonAmi, which is similar to Bartender's Secret, which is recommended by the manufacturer. I have cooked chili, boiled pasta, steamed veggies...all to success and my cookware looks new.

Although I cook everyday, I did not want to continue with my non-stick cookware. I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a reasonably priced stainless set to get used to cooking with stainless; eventually moving up to a more pricey set if necessary. At this point, I do not think I will need to move up to a more pricey set, but will purchase additional pieces of the T-fal Elegance, including the chicken fryer and the 3 qt. pot/lid. I did already purchase the 12.5 saute pan and it is very useful.

I love this set and think the price does not speak for it's excellence. It is a LOT of value for the money.

Do not break your glass lid. - Elizabeth -
T-fal does not offer replacement lids for this cookware, which is an issue since glass lids are fairly easy to break. The pots have been fine.



Unfortunate waste of time and money - Eric - Arkansas
After reviewing the instructions for use and care, I found that using this cookware was very frustrating. Although this would be a great deal (10-piece set for under a hundred bucks), I found that after one use with medium heat as instructed both pans and one pot became a bit discolored and a good portion of the food would stick and was very difficult to clean. I tried again with even a lower heat only to find that I spent double the time to cook the food and again with much of the food stuck to the pan. I spent about 45 minutes of combined time cooking and cleaning the last time I used the 10.25" saute' pan. That was very frustrating and all will be packed and returned. The look and balance weight of each item is nice, but I feel that short cuts with alloy metals in manufacturing for a larger profit margin leaves the consumer with set of garbage.

Induction purrrrfect! I boiled some food in one, and instead of the food boiling over on to the stove, the bubbles came through the top holes in the cover. The liquid then stayed on the cover and did not run on to the stove.

I'm surprised Calphalon has apparently discontinued this item. I purchased this real quality stainless steel set (the type that doesn't rust) on a gold box deal and was very pleased w/ how hefty it is. The corkscrew (easily worth ) can even open those plastic corks w/ ease (now I use my wonderful Pinzon)and I doubt it will ever wear out. The ice bucket (easily worth -40) can accommodate a champagne bottle and you never have to worry about breaking it, which I have done w/ a glass bucket. The tray is rather small (based on brand worth ), but can accommodate 4 regular sized wine glasses easily or you can use it as a baking pan for serving hot hors d'oeuvres.

If you want to buy this cookware from Amazon, be aware that the price fluctuates wildly. When I started shopping for this cookware, I saw it priced at Amazon in the 0's. Some time later, the price went down to the 0's. Then it went up again to the high 0's. Finally, I bought the set on 9/12/08 for 1.52. A week later, the price dropped to 5.73. I was able to get a price match. Today, as I am writing this review, the price is at 8.30.

I like the cookware. Everything feels high quality except for the lid knobs. I can't understand why they would put such cheap feeling lid knobs on what otherwise is an excellent cookware set. Except for these knobs, it has the same feel as the 00 sets that you see at country fairs. But considering the price I paid for it and free shipping, the cookware is a very good value.

My wife likes cooking vegetables with it. It's easier and quicker than having to boil water. The cookware does stain or suffer some discoloration on the inside after some use. Also, try not to burn food in it. It's not nearly as easy to clean as those non-stick teflon sets.

concerns of the plastic knob and steam valve construction - new user -
I have just received the set yesterday. To our disappointment, I have found that the entire knob and steam control valve was constructed by plastic. A large portion of the plastic will be exposed to the inside steam while cooking. Anybody has the same concern? After some search, it seems to me that all the steam control valves for waterless cookware are constructed in this way no matter what the brand is.

I went to a home show for Royal Queen set that cost 00 (on sale) and came home did my research and found this set! I received it quicker than I would have if I were to have bought from the other company. I am so happy that I took the time to research. This set is just as heavy duty and also has the lifetime warranty. At this price I can afford to add to my set quickly with no shows to do in my home. I recommend this product to anyone. I have cooked on them the first night I got them and they are everything I hoped they would be. It feels so good to have saved all that money, while eating and cooking healthy!!

We bought this set after watching a demo at the fair for a 00 set. Granted, that set had more pieces and the oil filled skillet and pot, as well as the salad grinder. This set has all the pieces we need.

As someone else stated, watch the price here on amazon.com. We purchased this set for 3.37, and today it is 8.30, quite a price difference.

We have not had any issues with them and have enjoyed cooking with them for about 6 weeks now. They do stain a little on the inside from potatoes and high starchy foods, but nothing that I am concerned with. We have treated the lids pretty gently since some reviews complained about the sturdyness of them, but have not had any issues to date.

Once again, very happy for the price.

The product is quite amazing. You will taste vegetables like it's the first time you've ever tasted them! And other meats,fish & chicken area great! The cleanup is a little hard to say. To get it pretty clean is not that hard,but to get it spotless takes a little more work. A solution of apple cider vinegar works very well.
The paperwork however has a little to be desired. For example the directions & cooking tips seem to have a little lost in the language translation or are just vague at times. Also the warranty process is frankly quite shocking,it states to send in the product to a P.O. box in Texas with a check presumably blank to pay for return shipping & handling. Also there was no number to contact the company to find out about this process or if one would like to purchase additions items or handles since they are not covered at all. But from what I can tell one shouldn't have any problems with the exception of the handles if you burn them or maybe the valves which is also the handle on the lids so be careful of that. All in all it's definitely worth it!

Just got my Maxam 17 piece waterless cookware two days ago and cooked my first meal in them today. I chose to cook Braised Roast Pork Tenderloin with Cabbage and Apples from the cookbook "Healthy Meat and Potatoes" by Charles and David Knight. I had a tough time believing that browning meat without oil or water would work, but I followed the book's (and cookware instruction's) advice and kept the temperature down to medium-high and browned the meat until I was able to move it from it's original "stuck" position (which you will always be able to do if you wait for required length of time to brown), then added the veggies (without water), then added a dome cover and lowered the heat as instructed, then kept the dome on at recommended low temp for time instructed -- WOW, was I surprised. The pork was SO VERY tender and lean and the veggies? GREAT flavor. Very low fat meal with NO SALT ADDED, just a few other spices. Can't wait to use this cookware again. Cleanup was a breeze.. I really think that those who do not appreciate waterless cookware, don't give it a chance by following instructions. You really have to cook on low heat to avoid burning and messy cleanup. This cookware cost me less that the 0 bucks I spent on the Circulon Professional set I bought several years back. I will keep those pieces but plan to rid myself of all other pots and pans I've collected over the years. LOVE THIS COOKWARE!!

Just got this set of cookware today and i love it!!! The weight alone of each piece of pot tells that it's gonna last me a long time. I'm just a bit worried about what the other customers are saying about the valves that fall off. I hope it won't happen to me, coz i really love this set of cookware. I've always wanted to buy a set of Saladmaster, but right now, it's not the top priority on my budget and I'm glad I found Maxam cookware online. I have no regrets that I bought this set, even if the valves fall off someday. I think it could be fixed so I'll just worry about that later. When I saw that this product was on sale for only 0 vs 00.00 I had to get it. It was a christmas present to myself considering I racked up on the gift cards. When I received the package, the box was heavier than expected. Each pot is pretty heavy and sturdy. When I finally got to use my pots, it cooked very quickly and kept the food hot a lot longer than my old pots. I even tried the egg poacher for the first time...delicious! I never had poached eggs before so, this was a good experience for me. Even though the pots are greaseless and waterless, I still use a little bit of olive oil and water. Upon first use, the pots do discolor a little bit. I read that stainless steel cleaner does shine them right back up; however, I am looking for an alternative cleaner because I don't want to take the risk of poisoning myself. Anyways, these pots are great!

The Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless 13 Piece set is hard to beat with all factors considered. Price, performance, aesthetics, ease of clean-up etc. etc. Never having been fans of stainless cookware in the past, we have been absolutely taken, so far, with this set. We were both brought up by parents who suffered through the hard times of the Great Depression and WWII. Accordingly they developed a high sense of frugality which was in-turn instilled in us. "Why buy a new pan when you can have this one I no longer use?" So we ended up with an ever evolving set of hand-me-downs that one might see in a yard sale and our cookware cupboard looked like something Andy Warhol might like to paint/photograph. The one absolute requirement,from both mothers, was that for certain cooking, properly seasoned/maintained cast iron skillets and dutch-ovens had no peers. A principle to which we both still subscribe and have self-proven. The "coated" aluminum pans eventually lose their non-stick coat, pure aluminum is a reactive metal and may pose health risks, plain stainless steel can be unforgiving depending on thickness etc. So, after 44 years together, through "our" tough times and "our" good times, we made a well researched decision finally bought a complete set of cookware, And, so far, we are delighted that it has performed as proclaimed. The full tri-ply sandwich does the trick. Even cooking at all points on the geometry. We have noted that the handles on the skillets/fry/omelet/saute pans do remain cool, the handles on the pots get a bit warmer, and the handles on the covers get warmer still. But, then, mitts should be used anyway. (Ever pick up a hot, camp-fire coffee pot before?)
We are happy and highly recommend Calphalon and in particular this set.
